Why do we call these airdrops “suspicious”

For us, an airdrop can look suspicious for numerous different reasons.

Here are some examples:

1. Users are asked to send some ether or other cryptocurrency first in order to qualify for the airdrop.
This is sometimes called a “self-airdrop”.

2. We cannot find a website for the particular project.
Often, these suspicious looking airdrops don’t have a website but only a brand new Telegram or Twitter account.
Sometimes, it is even just a Google doc form.

3. The real crypto project has warned about fake airdrops in their name (i.e. someone is pretending to be the real cryptocurrency).

Are all “suspicious” airdrops scams?

We are not accusing any project or any airdrop of being a scam.

We are saying that users should be extra careful when considering participation in those airdrops.

Why do we care?

Some people might ask, why we care and why do we put this list together in the first place?

In order to assist with the adoption of cryptocurrencies around the world, we are building a directory of high quality and promising crypto projects with 2 main objectives:

1. we want to help especially beginners to learn about cryptocurrencies by participating in airdrops and subsequently owning their first coins and tokens.

2. we include only quality projects in order to build confidence and trust in the blockchain technology and its usage and advantages.

For the average person to build enough trust in cryptocurrencies it is important that we work together to prevent scammers from eroding that confidence and trust.
